Evidence-Based Antidepressants
I usually publish my responses to Substack notes on Wednesday, but I had to publish this one immediately.
Dr. McFillin wrote as follows:
The only evidence-based antidepressants: Love, community, purpose, nature, kindness, exercise, sex, nutrition, sun, learning, friendship, health, faith, spiritual connection, achievement, acts of service, helping, inspiration, creativity, meditation, prayer.
What else?
I simply had to respond:
The coca plant, laughing gas, the phenethylamines synthesized by Alexander Shulgin, with user reports such as: “I acknowledged a rapture in the very act of breathing.” The evidence for such antidepressants is all around us, staring us in the face — except that America’s Christian Science bias prevents us from seeing it. I have been “saved” from these substances by drug prohibition, only to be shunted off onto Big Pharma meds that are harder to kick than heroin.
